He enlisted March 15, 1759 for the French and Indian War, He was 28 years old, a laborer and was born in Goshen, New York. He served at Fort Stanwix as a waiter for General Abercrombie.
He enlisted again March 31, 1760
He served as a minuteman in the Revolutionary War. Although he lived in the area he did not take part in the Battle of Minisink. His home in Finchville was used for safety by fugitives from the Minisink Valley.
He was a member of the First Board of Supervisors assembled at Goshen on May 28, 1798 representing Deerpark.

Apparently she didn’t.

General Notes: According to the book Descendants of John Finch of Connecticutt he and several other family members died from a Typhus Fever Epidemic in 1843. He was living with his wife and 3 children on a farm in Sussex County, New Jersey, but went to visit his parents’ home while they were sick. He died back at his own home.
In a letter written to his uncle Solomon Finch in April 1840, he had been living in Milford for 9 years. He had been an apprentice, tanning and surveying. He also made shoes.
John married Sarah Jane ARMSTRONG in Nov 1836 in New Jersey. Sarah was born in 1819 and died in 1901 at age 82.

From the Port Jervis New York Evening Gazette 1886. Mary R Hull a 65 year old widow drowned herself in a spring on his farm in Winterton a small hamlet near the borderline of Sullivan County. She had recently worked for him. (Thought he had sold his farm back in 1878 and was living in Middletown, so don’t really understand this)
At the time of his sister Margaret’s death in 1891 he was living at the corner of John Street and Linden Avenue.
